Life-cycle testing subjects a product to accelerated repetitive
use to project or establish its longevity before failure.
Automated routines and/or devices are frequently employed
in life-cycle testing to provide a realistic projected life
cycle for the product over a number of hours to years while
the actual test time is determined through automated round-the-clock
"24/7" testing operations.
With a Magtrol Dynamometer, DSP6001 High-Speed Dynamometer
Controller and M-TEST 5.0 Software, life-cycle testing can
be easily performed. For example, by setting a dynamometer
to continuously run multiple test cycles, you can determine
how many cycles a drill will complete before it fails, thus
predicting to a certainty how many hours the product will
last. Or your test may require loading a motor to a specified
value until it fails, again determining how long your motor
will operate.
Life-cycle testing is a common practice used to determine
longevity and failure rates of motors in many industries including
power tool, hydraulic/pneumatic, automotive, medical, dental,
appliance and lawn/garden. Parameters that can be tested include
torque, speed, volts, amps, watts and temperature.
